Macumen are an independent IT consultancy that provide a range of support services for small to medium businesses. Specialising in the Macintosh and FileMaker platform, Macumen offers clients complete IT and data solutions – network and server maintenance, IT support, database design, data protection, software and hardware procurement.

Whilst based in Sydney (offices are located at Stanmore, on the edge of Sydney’s CBD), Macumen also supports clients in Brisbane and Melbourne, and utilises the latest remote access technology to meet client needs.

John O’Rourke and Jim Dwyer, Macumen’s two founding Directors, established Macumen in 1999, and today combine over 35 years of Macintosh based experience.

Macumen Consulting operates independently of Macintosh resellers, and prides itself on offering its clients an accessible and jargon-free support solution with a combination of technical knowledge, business savvy and friendly service.

Key People

John O’Rourke

A Director of Macumen Consulting, John has over fifteen years experience in the support of Macintosh hardware and software. From 1990 to 1998, John worked as a Macintosh service engineer in Ireland. During that time John held the position of Support Manager of one of Dublin’s largest Macintosh resellers.

Shortly after relocating to Australia, John joined the Support Department of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Sydney where he was responsible for the support of the Faculty’s mixed platform desktop systems before co-founding Macumen Consulting in 1999.

John’s focus at Macumen is to provide the highest level of IT services for clients, whether it is designing network infrastructures, developing a data protection strategy or simply troubleshooting a desktop problem.

Jim Dwyer ( Bachelor of Commerce ~ USyd )

A Director of Macumen Consulting, Jim has also supported Macintosh hardware and software for over sixteen years. He spent 2 years managing the Service Department of a Macintosh reseller, which gave him wide exposure to a range of Macintosh and third party solutions.

His last project before co-founding Macumen Consulting included the management of a large, mixed-platform environment, where he was responsible for the design, implementation, and management of an IT infrastructure that supported 750 computers and over 1000 users.

Jim’s qualifications include being a Certified Apple Engineer. In addition, Macumen, through Jim’s database development experience and qualifications, is a Certified FileMaker Developer and member of the FileMaker Business Alliance.
