November 19th saw the running of the inaugural Macumen / PMDL Challenge Cup at Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway. The day saw us battle through four 12 lap heats for supremacy (and poll position) in the 20 lap final but not before we had lunch and started writing cheques that our bodies (for the most part) couldn’t cash on the racetrack.
The thrills and spills, the fist shaking and tactics were all discussed in a post race recovery session aided by a few cold beers. Whilst it wasn’t about who won on the day (Jim from Macumen did by the way) it was heaps of fun and the teams from PMDL and Macumen are looking forward to next year where Team PMDL are, I’m sure out to get Jim (Sean probably is too, but the whole internet is probably not big enough for that story).
Thanks to Team PMDL for joining us and just in case you’re wondering the top three looked like this.
- Jim – Macumen
- Sean – Macumen
- Troy – PMDL (with the quickest laptime of the day)
Stronger essentials to make unique custom apps
The new FileMaker 15 platform has just been released. Like recent releases, it works seamlessly across iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and the web. Our favourite new feature of V15 is support for iBeacons – we’ve been tinkering and developing for this new feature.
Macumen will be using the features in V15 to develop new solutions for our clients. Whether it’s FileMaker Pro, Filemaker Go or FileMaker WebDirect this powerful software can help transform your business processes.
If you’d like to discuss the possibilities pick up the phone and give the team at Macumen a call, we can’t wait to build you a new solution or upgrade your existing one and get your business humming.

Macumen – 17 Years and Counting
Macumen will celebrate 17 years in business this May, from humble beginnings in Camperdown in 1999 to a team of 9 in Stanmore today. We’ve evolved and grown along the way with support and encouragement from clients, suppliers and others who operate in the same industry as us. Focusing on Apple and the Mac ecosystem it’s little wonder that Jim and John have been able to grow Macumen to the point it is today with Apple becoming the technology powerhouse it is.
Did you know that Time has just named the iPhone the most influential gadget of all time? Apple also has another two entries in the top 10 (the Macintosh at number 3 and the iPod at number 9) and a total of 5 in the top 50.
What a great segment of the IT industry we work in and we look forward to many more years (particularly next year when we can go to the pub, I think we’ll have to start planning 18th birthday celebrations very soon).
Hip, Hip, Hooray!
Macumen Is Getting Merry This Christmas
Here at Macumen we would like to thank all of our clients, suppliers and friends for their business, support and help over the past year and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year. We will be taking a short break to recharge the batteries and spend some time with friends and families (thus guaranteeing that we will be back early in January).
Closed: Thursday, 24th December
Re-Open: Monday, 4th January
We hope Santa brings you all that you desire and if he doesn’t that you pick it up cheap in the new year sales!
Merry Christmas and bring on 2016!
Certified FileMaker 14 Developer
John Pashley has just attained certification as a FileMaker 14 Developer making Macumen one of the first (and relatively few) certified FileMaker 14 developers in Australia (he’s like a rockstar around here).
The new FileMaker 14 Platform provides the most complete and flexible experience across iPad, iPhone, Windows, Mac and the web. Including new features that speed design and development time, provide more control of iPad and iPhone solutions, and give you access to your data in a mobile browser.
Macumen has been able to design your new database using FileMaker 14, or rejig your old, ugly database to look cool and be an even more valuable tool for your business for months, now we can do it with ‘Pasho’. If you’d like to discuss the possibilities please drop us a line via the contact tab above or call us on (02) 9550 1110.
Well done Pasho!
Macumen adds one more to the team, bringing our numbers to seven!
John Pashley joins us as a FileMaker developer bringing a broad range of experience from being a Certified Apple Technician, providing advice and support across many different areas including OS X, iOS, FileMaker (Server, Pro and Go) and running his own business as well as (importantly) being a FileMaker Certified Developer.
I guess our next big challenge is assigning names to the seven of us (Grumpy and Dopey are already taken).
Please join us in welcoming ‘Pasho’ to the team.
Macumen welcomes Sean Inkley to the Team
Sean joins Team Macumen direct from Apple Australia working as an Apple Genius and trainer for the past three years. He brings a wealth of knowledge on all Apple products and a history of innovation and adaptability (this is after all what Apple is all about). We will be introducing Sean to clients over the coming weeks, or you may meet him on the phone when calling the office.
Sean also has a solid background in social media development, web development and as a professional athlete training at the NSW Institute of Sport. Please join us in welcoming him to our team and help him transition from his beloved blue Apple t-shirts to The World According to Macumen.
Now Designing Your Database In FileMaker 14

The Complete Experience – Automation. Design. Mobility. Control.
Macumen is now able to design your new database using FileMaker 14, or rejig your old, ugly database to look cool and be an even more valuable tool for your business. If you’d like to discuss the possibilities please drop us a line via the contact tab above or call us on (02) 9550 1110.
Certified FileMaker 13 Developers
That’s right, developers!
Both Jim Dwyer and Brendan Wilde have gained certification as FileMaker 13 developers.
Certification ensures that work is conducted by an experienced FileMaker professional, and that the development staff have the technical expertise and background to produce first class solutions.
Go on, give them a call. They have specific experience in the design and implementation of systems – from simple to complex – in the following areas:
• Client/Contact Management tools
• Sales and Invoicing Systems
• Project Management Systems
• Digital Asset Management
• Time Billing Systems and more.
Well done Jim and Brendan on being among the first developers in Australia to be certified in FileMaker 13.
